Is-sinjal għal BRISTOL isir b’id waħda li tieħu l-forma ta’ L bil-pala tħares ’il ġewwa. L-id titla’ bi skoss minn pożizzjoni fejn il-werrej ikun iħares ’l isfel għal pożizzjoni fejn il-werrej ikun iħares laġenba, qisu lest biex jispara. Dan is-sinjal isir minħabba li l-komunità Maltija tal-persuni nieqsa mis-smigħ jaraw ix-xebħ bejn l-isem tal-post u l-isem “pistol” bl-Ingliż.
The sign for BRISTOL is made with one hand which takes the shape of L with palm facing inwards. The hand moves with a jerk from a postion where the index finger points downwards to a position where it points sideways, as though ready to shoot. This sign is a result of the resemblance between the placename and that for “pistol” from a Maltese Deaf person’s perspective.
