The sign for DOG is made with one hand and a small movement. The hand takes the shape of upright U or V at the side of the forehead with the palm facing outwards. The two fingers are bent straight over from the knuckles without any hand movement.

The sign for DOG resembles that for RABBIT. The sign is also used as part of the compound sign for particular dogs e.g. alsation, dalmation.

The sign for PUPPY is the sign for DOG followed by that for BABY or SMALL. The signs for SMALL and BIG are made with two hands in the shape of 5 with palms facing each other in a vertical or diagonal direction. The distance between the hands indicates the relative size of the dog. The sign for DOG precedes the signs for SMALL or BIG.

The plural is formed by adding the sign for MANY after the sign for DOG. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands take the shape of curved V. They are placed at various points in the signing space as though several dogs were actually being put into that space.

When the noun DOG is used with a verb of movement, one hand in the shape of curved V is used as a classifier and moves accordingly.
