There are two signs for CROCODILE. The first sign is made with both hands in the shape of straight closed 5 with the wrists touching and palms facing each other whilst the fingertips point outwards. The hands move away from each other, one upwards and the other downwards and repeat a clapping movement three times or more whilst the wrists still touch.

The second sign is made with the hands extended outwards and the elbows drawn inwards close to each other. The hands are in the clawed 5 shape with the fingertips of one hand touching the fingertips of the other hand to form the shape of a ball. The hands move apart, one upwards and the other downwards whilst the elbows stay in place. This movement is repeated twice or more. It resembles that of the crocodile’s mouth.

To refer to a small or large crocodile, the sign for SMALL or the sign for BIG is made with both hands in the shape of 5, palms facing in a horizontal direction. The distance between the hands indicates the relative size of the crocodile. These signs are used after the sign for CROCODILE.

The sign for MANY is used with the sign for CROCODILE to express the plural. Sometimes one or both hands in the shape of curved V become the classifier. They are placed at various points in the signing space as though many crocodiles were being placed there. The classifier is also used when CROCODILE is the subject of a verb of movement. It then moves according to the action indicated by the verb.
