Hemm żewġ sinjali jixxiebħu għal NAGĦMA. L-ewwel sinjal għandu żewġ partijiet: (jew i) L-idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ L kkurvata, bil-pala tħares ’il ġewwa, u jitqiegħdu fuq xulxin quddiem l-għonq. L-id tan-naħa ta’ fuq togħla dritt ’il fuq mir-ras. Dan ifakkrek fl-għonq twil tan-nagħma. (jew ii) L-idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ ponn bil-pala tħares ’l isfel u jduru bħal rota ’l fuq u ’l quddiem, imbagħad ’l isfel u lura.
L-ewwel parti tat-tieni sinjal l-istess bħal ta’ l-ewwel sinjal. Fit-tieni parti, l-ewwel tlett iswaba’ taż-żewġ idejn jintużaw biex iduru ’l fuq u ’l quddiem, imbagħad ’l isfel u lura b’mod laxk li jfakkar fil-mixja tan-nagħma fuq ir-ramel.
Is-sinjali għal ŻGĦIR u għal KBIR isiru minn id waħda li tieħu l-forma ta’ 5 magħluq. Id-distanza bejn l-id u l-art tindika d-daqs tan-nagħma. Is-sinjal għal NAGĦMA jiġi qabel is-sinjal għal ŻGĦIR jew KBIR.
GħaIl-plural is-sinjal għal ĦAFNA jiġi wara s-sinjal għal NAGĦMA. Ġieli ukoll tintuża classifier. F’dan il-każ tintuża l-id jew l-idejn fil-forma ta’ 8 mgħawweġ jew ta’ V mgħawġa u jitpoġġew f’ħafna punti fiż-żona tas-sinjali qisu hemmhekk qed jitqiegħdu ħafna ngħam.
Meta n-nom NAGĦMA jkun is-suġġett ta’ verb ta’ moviment, l-id fil-forma ta’ V mgħawġa tintuża bħala classifier u timxi skond l-azzjoni.
There are two similar signs for OSTRICH. The first sign has two parts: (jew i) The hands, in the shape of curved L, with palms facing inwards, are placed over each other in front of the neck. The hand at the top is lifted straight up, beyond head-level. This reminds one of the long neck of the ostrich. (jew ii) The hands, in the shape of a fist, rotate as though on a bike, upwards and frontwards, then down and back.
The first part of the second sign is the same as that for the first sign. For the second part, the first three fingers of both hands are used to rotate vertically but floppily, thus resembling the walk of the ostrich on sand.
The signs for SMALL and BIG are made with one hand in the shape of closed 5. The distance between the hand and the ground indicates the relative size of the ostrich. The sign for OSTRICH is used before the sign for SMALL or BIG.
The sign for MANY is used after the sign for OSTRICH to express the plural. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands in the shape of curved 8 or curved V are placed at various points in the signing space as though several ostriches were actually being put into that space.
When the noun OSTRICH is the subject of a verb of movement, the hand in the shape of curved V becomes the classifier, moving according to the action of the verb.
