Hemm żewġ sinjali għal NEMLA. L-ewwel sinjal isir b’id waħda li tieħu l-forma ta’ x bil-pala tal-id tħares ’l isfel u bil-werrej jiftaħ u jagħlaq, qisu qed jagħfas xi ħaġa, waqt li l-id timxi ftit ’il quddiem.
It-tieni sinjal isir biż-żewġ idejn. Id waħda tieħu l-forma ta’ 5 mgħawweġ bil-pala ’l fuq u l-id titqiegħed quddiem is-sider. L-id l-oħra tieħu l-forma ta’ V mgħawweġ bis-swaba’ jimxu flimkien fuq il-pala ta’ l-ewwel id.
Is-sinjal għal ŻGĦIR isir b’id waħda forma ta’ Ċ magħluqa, bis-saba’ l-kbir qrib tal-werrej. Id-distanza bejn il-werrej u s-saba’ l-kbir jindika d-daqs tan-nemla (jew żgħira). Is-sinjal għal KBIR isir b’id waħda forma ta’ Ċ miftuħa skond id-daqs mixtieq, u jintuża biex tindika nemla kbira. Is-sinjal għal ŻGĦIR u s-sinjal għal KBIR isiru wara s-sinjal għal NEMLA.
Għall-plural, ġieli tintuża l-id forma ta’ X li titpoġġa f’punti differenti fiż-żona tas-sinjali qisu hemmhekk qed jitqiegħdu ħafna nemel. Inkella jista’ jintuża s-sinjal għal ĦAFNA wara s-sinjal għal NEMLA.
Meta n-nom NEMLA jkun is-suġġett ta’ verb ta’ moviment, l-id forma ta’ X tintuża bħala classifier u timxi skond l-azzjoni tal-verb.
There are two signs for ANT. The first sign is make with one hand in the shape of X with the palm facing downwards and the index finger opening and closing, as though squeezing something, as the hand moves forward a little.
The second sign is made with two hands. One hand in the shape of curved 5 with palm up is placed in front of the chest. The other hand takes the shape of curved V and the two fingers, moving together, are placed on the palm of the other hand.
The sign for SMALL is made with one hand in the shape of closed Ċ with the thumb close to the index finger. The distance between the thumb and the index finger indicates the size of the ant. The sign for BIG, made with a C shaped hand, opening according to the desired size, is used to refer to a big ant. The signs for SMALL and BIG are used after the sign for ANT.
For the plural, the hand in the shape of X is placed at various points in the signing space as though many ants were being placed there. The sign for MANY may be used after the sign for ANT instead.
When the noun ANT is the subject of a verb of movement, the hand in the shape of X is used as a classifier and moves according to the action of the verb.
