Hemm żewġ sinjali għal PIRANA. L-ewwel sinjal isir b’id waħda forma ta’ O li timxi minn naħa għall-oħra waqt li l-forma tal-O tinfetaħ xi tlett darbiet tul il-mixja bl-erbat-iswaba jogħlew u jinżlu qishom xi ħuta fl-ilma.
Dan is-sinjal jintuża bħala t-tieni parti fit-tieni sinjal. Fl-ewwel parti jsir is-sinjal għal BAĦAR. Id waħda tieħu l-forma ta’ 5 dritta bil-pala tħares ’il ġewwa. L-id timxi minn naħa għal oħra b’moviment imperper lejn ’il ġewwa u ’il barra.
Is-sinjal għal ŻGĦIR jew għal KBIR isir bl-idejn li jieħdu l-forma ta’ Ċ u jħarsu lejn xulxin f’linja orizzontali. Id-distanza bejn l-idejn tindika d-daqs tal-pirana. Is-sinjal għal PIRANA jintuża qabel is-sinjal għal ŻGĦIR jew KBIR.
Is-sinjal għal ĦAFNA jintuża għaIl-plural wara s-sinjal għal PIRANA. Ġieli ukoll tintuża classifier. F’dan il-każ, id waħda jew iż-żewġ idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ Ċ u jitpoġġew f’ħafna punti fiż-żona tas-sinjali qisu hemmhekk qed jitqiegħdu ħafna pirani.
Meta n-nom PIRANA jkun is-suġġett ta’ verb ta’ moviment, id waħda tieħu l-forma ta’ 5 laġenba, bil-pala ta’ l-id ‘il ġewwa, tintuża bħala classifier u timxi skond l-azzjoni.
There are two signs for PIRANHA. The first sign is made with one hand in the shape of O that moves from one side to the other whilst the O shape opens up about three or more times as the four fingers move up and then down again like a fish in the water.
This sign is used as the second part of the second sign. The first part is the sign for SEA is made with one hand in the shape of straight 5 with palm facing inwards. The hand makes a fluttered movement inwards and outwards as it makes its way to the other side.
The sign for SMALL or for BIG is made with both hands facing each other in a horizontal direction in the shape of C. The distance between the hands indicates the size of the piranha. The sign for PIRANHA is used before the sign for SMALL or BIG.
The sign for MANY is used to signal the plural. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands take the shape of Ċ. They are placed at various points in the signing space as though several piranhas were actually being put into that space.
When the noun PIRANHA is used as the subject of a verb of movement, one hand takes the shape of 5 with palm facing inwards, becomes the classifier, and moves according to the action.
