The sign for ROBIN has three parts: (jew i) The first part is the sign for BIRD, that is, the hand takes the L shape with palm facing out and covering the mouth but without contact. The thumb and the index fingerer make a light closing and opening movement twice or more. (jew ii) In the second part of the sign, the hand takes the shape of 1, palm facing inwards and the index finger moves along the lower lip. This is the sign for RED. The hand forms the Ċ shape and circles round the mouth. (jew iii) In the third part, the hand takes the shape of 5 with palm facing. This reminds one of the robin’s coloured breast. The sign for ORANGE is sometimes used. The third part is often made before the second part of the sign.

For a small or large robin, the sign for ROBIN is followed by the sign for SMALL or for BIG. The sign for SMALL and the sign for BIG is made with the hands in the shape of 1 with palms facing in a diagonal or vertical direction. The distance between the index fingers indicates the size of the robin.

The sign for MANY is used after the sign for ROBIN to signal plurality. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands in the shape of X is placed at various points in the signing space as though several robins were actually being put into that space.

When the noun ROBIN is the subject of a verb of movement, the hand in the shape of X is used as the classifier, moving according to the action indicated by the verb.
