Is-sinjal għal ĦAMSTER magħmul minn żewġ partijiet. (jew i) L-ewwel parti ssir b’id waħda li tieħu l-forma ta’ L fuq l-imnieħer, bil-pala tħares ’il ġewwa. Is-swaba’ tal-L jingħalqu. (jew ii) Imbagħad is-swaba jinżlu waqt li jduru f’ċirku żgħir fuq quddiem. Dan il-moviment ifakkrek fil-ħamster qed idur fir-rota tiegħu fil-gaġġa.

The sign for HAMSTER is made up of two parts. (jew i) The first part is made with one hand that takes the shape of L over the nose, palm facing inwards. The fingers of the L close. (jew ii) Then, the fingers rotate in a small circle at the front. This movement reminds one of the hamster running round inside the wheel of its cage.

The signs for SMALL and BIG are made with both hands in the shape of C facing each other horizontally. The distance between the two hands indicates the relative size of the hamster. The sign for HAMSTER is used before the sign for SMALL or BIG.

The sign for MANY is used after the sign for HAMSTER to express the plural. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands in the shape of curved V are placed at various points in the signing space as though several hamsters were actually being put into that space.

When the noun HAMSTER is the subject of a verb of movement, the hand in the shape of curved V or horizontal 1 is used as a classifier. The hand moves according to the action.
