Hemm żewġ sinjali differenti għal ĦMAR. L-ewwel sinjal isir biż-zewġ idejn li jieħdu l-forma ta’ B bil-pala tħares ’il barra u jitqiegħdu mal-ġnub tan-ngħas. Imbagħad jimxu ’l barra lejn il-ġnub fl-istess livell tar-ras.

It-tieni sinjal isir biż-żewġ idejn forma ta’ 5 bil-pala tħares ’il barra. L-idejn jitqiegħdu livell mar-ras u jimxu sakemm is-saba’ l-kbir imiss in-ngħas. Il-pala ta’ l-id tibqa’ tħares ’il barra. Hemm varjant ta’ dan is-sinjal li jsir b’id waħda jew tnejn. L-idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ 5 u s-swaba jingħalqu waqt li jiċċaqilqu mill-għoli tal-widnejn ’l isfel.

Is-sinjal li jintuża biex tgħid li persuna hija ħmar isir b’id waħda bil-pala laġenba ħdejn il-widna. L-id timxi ’l fuq u ’l barra laġenba.

Għal ĦMAR żgħir jew kbir, is-sinjali għal ŻGĦIR u għal KBIR, isiru minn id waħda li tieħu l-forma ta’ 5 bil-pala ‘l isfel u jiġu wara s-sinjal għal ĦMAR. Id-distanza bejn l-art u l-id tindika d-daqs tal-ħmar.

GħaIl-plural is-sinjal għal ĦAFNA jiġi wara s-sinjal għal ĦMAR. Ġieli ukoll tintuża classifier. F’dan il-każ id waħda jew iż-żewġ idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ V mgħawġa u jitpoġġew f’ħafna punti fiż-żona tas-sinjali qisu hemmhekk qed jitqiegħdu ħafna ħmir.

Meta n-nom ĦMAR ikun is-suġġett ta’ verb ta’ moviment, id waħda tieħu l-forma ta’ V mgħawġa, tintuża bħala classifier u timxi skond l-azzjoni.

There are two signs for DONKEY. The first sign is made with both hands in the shape of B with palms facing outwards. The hands are placed close to the side of the forehead. They then move out to the sides at the same head level.

The second sign is made with both hands in the shape of 5 with palms facing outwards and move until the thumbs touch the side of the forehead. A variant of this sign is made with one or two hands. The hands take the shape of 5 and the fingers close as the hands move from ear level downwards.

The sign used to call someone a donkey is made with one hand near the ear, palm facing the side. The hand moves up and out to the side.

To refer to a small or large donkey, the signs for SMALL and BIG are made with one hand in the shape of 5 palm down after the sign for DONKEY. The distance between the hand and the ground indicates the relative size of the donkey.

The sign for MANY is used after the sign for DONKEY to express the plural. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands take the shape of curved V. They are placed at various points in the signing space as though several donkeys were actually being put into that space.

When the noun DONKEY is the subject of a verb of movement, one hand in the shape of curved V is used as a classifier and moves accordingly.
