The hands are in the T shape with palms facing up. The hands move up and down as though in synchrony with the horse’s reins that move along with the horse. (jew ii)
Then, one hand takes the V shape and moves diagonally from the top of the shoulder down to just under the chest.
For the second sign, the sign for HORSE is made first. Then one hand lies down from the elbow whilst the other hand takes the V shape and, with palm facing downwards, moves along the width of the stationary arm three times or more. This second part of both signs reminds one of the zebra’s stripes.
To refer to a small or large horse, the signs for SMALL and BIG are made with one hand in the shape of 5 palm down after the sign for ZEBRA. The distance between the ground and the hand indicates the relative size of the zebra.
The sign for MANY is used with the sign for ZEBRA to express the plural. A classifier is often used. In this case, one hand in the shape of curved V is placed at various points in the signing space as though several zebras were actually being put into that space.
When the noun ZEBRA is the subject of a verb of movement, one hand in the shape of curved V is used as the classifier, moving according to the action indicated by the verb.
