Hemm żewġ sinjali għal BAQRA. L-ewwel sinjal isir biż-żewġ idejn bil-forma ta’ Y. L-idejn jibdew bil-pala tħares ’l isfel waqt li s-swaba’ l-kbar imissu man-ngħas. Imbagħad l-id iddur ’l fuq u l-pala tiġi tħares ’il barra waqt li s-swaba’ l-kbar jibqgħu fuq in-ngħas.
It-tieni sinjal isir b’id waħda jew biż-żewġ idejn li jieħdu l-forma ta’ Y, bil-pala ta’ l-id tħares ‘il barra u bis-saba’ l-kbir jagħti daqqa ħafifa man-ngħas darbtejn.
Is-sinjal għal TARBIJA jew is-sinjal għal ŻGĦIR jintuża wara s-sinjal għal BAQRA biex jirreferi għall-għoġol. Is-sinjali għal ŻGĦIR u għal KBIR huma magħmulin miż-żewġ idejn li jieħdu l-forma ta’ 5 bil-pala ta’ id waħda tħares lejn l-oħra f’linja vertikali, djagonali jew orizzontali. Dawn is-sinjali jistgħu jkunu magħmulin ukoll b’id waħda bil-pala tħares lejn l-art. Id-distanza bejn l-idejn jew bejn l-id u l-art tindika d-daqs tal-baqra.
Fil-plural, is-sinjal għal ĦAFNA jiġi wara s-sinjal għal BAQRA. Ġieli ukoll tintuża classifier. F’dan il-każ id waħda jew iż-żewġ idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ V mgħawġa jew il-forma ta’ 5 mgħawweġ u jitpoġġew f’ħafna punti fiż-żona tas-sinjali qisu hemmhekk qed jitqiegħdu ħafna baqar.
Meta n-nom BAQRA jkun is-suġġett ta’ verb ta’ moviment, id waħda jew iż-żewġ idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ V mgħawġa jew il-forma ta’ 5 mgħawweġ. Jintużaw bħala l-classifier u l-idejn jimxu skond l-azzjoni.
There are two signs for COW. The first sign is made with both hands in the Y shape with palms facing down whilst the thumbs touch the forehead. Then the hands turn upwards so that the palms face outwards whilst the thumbs stay on the forehead.
The second sign is made with one or two hands in the shape of Y with palm facing outwards and the thumb hitting the side of the forehead very lightly twice.
The sign for BABY or the sign for SMALL is used after the sign for COW to refer to a CALF. The signs for SMALL and BIG are made with two hands in the shape of 5 with palms facing each other in a vertical, diagonal or horizontal direction or one hand with palm facing the ground. The distance between the hands or between the hand and the ground indicates the relative size of the cow.
The plural is formed by adding the sign for MANY after the sign for COW. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands take the shape of curved V or the shape of a curved 5. They are placed at various points in the signing space as though several cows were actually being put into that space.
When the noun COW is used as the subject of a verb of movement, one or both hands take the shape of curved V or the shape of curved 5 and become the classifier, moving accordingly.
