Is-sinjal għal BARMAN JEW BARMAID għandu żewġ partijiet. (i) L-ewwel isir is-sinjal għal BAR. Id waħda titqiegħed ’il quddiem bil-forma ta’ ponn bil-pala tħares ’il ġewwa livell mar-ras. L-id l-oħra tieħu l-forma ta’ 5 bil-pala tħares ’il fuq u tieqal livell mal-qadd. L-ewwel id tinżel bil-mod ’l isfel u ftit ’il barra waqt li ddur biex il-pala tiġi tħares laġenba. Dan il-moviment ifakkar fil-mod kif tisserva l-birra “draught”. (ii) Imbagħad isir is-sinjal għal PERSUNA. Id waħda tieħu l-forma ta’ Ċ magħluqa bil-pala tħares ’il barra. L-id tinżel dritt ’l isfel fil-ġenb.
Varjant ta’ dan is-sinjal juża s-sinjal għal XOGĦOL qabel is-sinjal għal BAR minflok is-sinjal għal PERSUNA wara. Iż-żewġ idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ ponn bil-pala ta kull id tħares laġenba u ponn wieħed jagħti daqqa ħafifa fuq l-ieħor.
The sign for BARMAN or BARMAID consists of two parts. (i) The first part is the sign for BAR. One hand takes the shape of a fist with palm facing inwards level with the head. The other hand takes the shape of 5 and lies stationary with palm facing upwards at waist level. The first hand turns so that the palm faces sideways as it moves downwards and a little outwards. This movement reminds one of the way draught beer is served. (ii) The second part is the sign for PERSON. One hand takes the shape of closed C with palm facing outwards. The hand moves straight down at the side.
A variant of this sign uses the sign for WORK, instead of the sign for PERSON, before the sign for BAR. Both hands in the shape of a fist with the palms facing sideways. One fist hits the other lightly.
