The sign for HOLY CITY has two parts. (i) The first part is the sign for the letter B. The hand moves forwards and downwards. This part resembles that for VALLETTA. (ii) The second part is the sign for BLESS, made with one hand that takes the shape of B or of closed 5 and moves in a straight line down from just above head level, then across from one side to another, thus forming a large cross. A variant of this sign has two parts. (i) The first part is the sign for PLACE which is made with one hand that takes the shape of a curved 5 with the palm facing downwards and is placed at chest level. (ii) The second part is the sign for SAINT. This is made with one hand taking the shape for 1 and drawing a circle over the head, thus indicating a saint’s halo.
