Is-sinjal għal CHESS isir biż-żewġ idejn. Id waħda tieqaf forma ta’ 5 laxka u bil-pala tħares ’il fuq. L-id l-oħra, bil-pala tħares ’l isfel u bis-swaba’ weqfin ’l isfel f’ċirku miftuħ. L-id tinżel fuq jew kważi fuq il-pala l-wieqfa u titla’ ftit ’il fuq, imbagħad tinżel ’il quddiem, lejn il-ġenb qisha qed terfa’ imbagħad tqiegħed xi oġġett żgħir. Dan il-moviment jirrepeti ruħu imma din id-darba l-id tinżel lejn il-ġenb l-ieħor.

The sign for CHESS is made with both hands. One hand is held stationary in the shape of a loose 5 and with palm facing upwards. The other hand is held with palm facing downwards and fingers extended downwards in an open circle. The hand moves onto or a little over the stationary palm and then moves upwards a little. Then it moves down again at the front, towards the side, as though lifting and then placing a small object. This movement is repeated but this time the hand moves down towards the other side.
