The sign for FATIMA consists of two or three parts. The first part is the sign for FRANCE. It is made with one hand in a curved F shape with the palm facing sideways and the hand raised to mouth level. The hand twists so that the palm faces outwards at neck level. This movement reminds one of the stroking of a moustache. This part is usually used when the reference is to the place. The second part is the sign for MADONNA (OUR LADY). Both hands take the shape for closed 5 and move diagonally down from the top of the head to the side until they reach the ears. They then continue downwards but towards the middle until the palms meet as if in prayer. In the third part, the signs for the letters in the name ‘Fatima’ are made.
