Is-sinjal għal FEJN magħmul b’id waħda li tieħu l-forma ta’ 5 bil-pala tħares ’il fuq. L-id tagħmel moviment imferfer, bħal f’ċirku zgħir, waqt li żżomm l-istess forma.
Dan is-sinjal jintuża kemm għal mistoqsija kif ukoll qabel is-sinjal ta’ post meta dan ikun parti minn frażi avverbjali eż. SPIŻJAR ĠDID FETAĦ FEJN FURJANA jiġifieri “Fetaħ spiżjar ġdid il-Furjana”. Hawnhekk naraw is-sinjal FEJN jintuża bħala prepożizzjoni.
Meta dan is-sinjal ikun qed jintuża bħala mistoqsija, l-għajnejn iharsu dritt lejn il-persuna li tkun qed tiġi indirizzata biex tikkomunika l-mistoqsija u l-ħuġbejn jogħlew. F’sentenza li ssaqsi fejn jinstab xi post jew fejn issir xi ħaġa, s-sinjal għal FEJN? normalment isir l-aħħar, e.ż. INT DAR FEJN? jiġifieri “Int fejn toqgħod?” jew INT XOGĦOL FEJN? Jiġifieri, “ Int fejn taħdem?”
The sign for WHERE is made with one hand in the shape of 5 with the palm facing upwards. The hand makes a small fluttering, circular movement keeping the same shape.
This sign is used both as a question sign as well as a prefix to any sign indicating location when this is part of an adverbial phrase as in PHARMACY NEW OPEN WHERE FLORIANA meaning “A new pharmacy has opened in Floriana”. The sign for WHERE functions prepositionally in such instances.
When WHERE is being used as a question sign, the signer’s eyes look at the person addressed to signal that a question is being asked and the eyebrows are raised. In a sentence asking the location of a place or where something takes place, the sign for WHERE? normally occurs at the end, e.g., YOU HOUSE WHERE? meaning “Where do you live?” or YOU WORK WHERE? meaning “Where do you work?”
