There are two different signs for CHAMELEON. The first sign is made with both hands. The first three fingers of both hands are curved. One hand jumps outwards from in front of the chin whilst the three fingers open and close. Then both hands repeat this further but further down and outwards at the sides.

The second sign has two parts: (jew i) First, the hands form the shape of small Ċ amd jump forward one at a time. (jew ii) In the second part, one hand changes to an L shape with the index finger pointing upwards and moves up in front of the mouth. The hand moves in one jerky quick movement forward as when the chameleon catches an insect with its tongue.

To refer to a small or a large chameleon, the sign for SMALL or the sign for BIG is made with two hands in the shape of C with the distance between the hands indicating the relative size of the chameleon. The sign for CHAMELEON precedes the sign for SMALL or BIG.

The sign for MANY is used to signal the plural after the sign for CHAMELEON. Sometimes a classifier is used. In this case, the hand in the shape of X is placed in several places in the signing space as though several chameleons were being placed there.

When the noun CHAMELEON is used as the subject of a verb of movement, one hand in the shape of X is used as a classifier when reference is made to some action or quality related to the chameleon in the sentence.
