Hemm żewġ sinjali għal LIJA. L-ewwel sinjal isir b’id waħda li tieħu l-forma ta’ L bil-pala tħares ’il barra. L-id timxi mil-livell tar-ras ’l isfel imbagħad lejn il-ġenb qisu fil-forma ta’ L kbira.
Sinjal ieħor huwa l-istess bħas-sinjal għal H (jew Ħ) u għal L, l-ewwel ittri taż-żewġ partijiet ta’ l-isem tal-post. L-id bil-forma ta’ H timxi ftit għal ġenb waqt li tinbidel fl-L.
Varjazzjoni ta’ dan is-sinjal issir biż-żewġ idejn li jieħdu l-forma ta’ Ċ bil-pala ta’ id tħares lejn l-oħra. L-idejn jagħmlu moviment bħal ta’ nofs ċirku laġenba għal tlett darbiet, kull darba iċken minn dak ta’ qabel. Dan ifakkar fil-forma tal-koppla tal-knisja ta’ Ħal-Lija.
There are two signs for LIJA. The first sign is made with one hand that takes the shape of L with palm facing outwards. The hand moves from head level downwards and then to the side as though forming a large L.
Another sign is the same as that for the letters H (or Ħ) and for L, the first letters of the two parts of the placename Ħal Lija in Maltese. The hand in the shape of the letter H moves slightly to the side whilst it changes into the shape of the letter L.
A variation of this sign is made with both hands in the shape of C with palms facing each other sideways. The hands make the movement of three half circles sideways such that each one is smaller than the previous one. This reminds one of the shape of the dome of the Lija Parish Church.
