Hemm żewġ sinjali differenti għal PINGWIN. L-ewwel sinjal isir bl-idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ 5 ċatt u jintefgħu ’l quddiem bil-pala tħares ’l isfel. Id-dirgħajn imissu l-ġnub tal-ġisem tul is-sinjal. L-idejn jiċċaqilqu f’ċirku flimkien permezz taċ-caqliq tal-ispalel. Dan ifakkrek fil-mixja tal-pingwin. Ġieli l-ġisem jixxengel iktar biex jirrifletti l-movimenti tal-pingwin.

Għal pingwin żgħir jew kbir, l-ewwel isir is-sinjal għal PINGWIN imbagħad isir is-sinjal għal ŻGĦIR jew is-sinjal għal KBIR. Is-sinjal għal ŻGĦIR u għal KBIR isir bl-idejn li jieħdu l-forma ta’ 5 u jħarsu lejn xulxin f’linja vertikali. Id-distanza ta’ bejn l-idejn tindika d-daqs tal-pingwin.
Għall-plural is-sinjal għal ĦAFNA jiġi wara is-sinjal għal PINGWIN. Ġieli ukoll tintuża classifier. F’dan il-każ tintuża l-id jew l-idejn fil-forma ta’ V mgħawġa li jitpoġġew f’ħafna punti fiż-żona tas-sinjali qisu hemmhekk qed jitqiegħdu ħafna pingwini.

There are two signs for PENGUIN. The first is made with flat hands in the form of 5 placed in front with palms facing downwards. The arms touch the sides of the body throughout the sign. The hands move in a circular motion as a result of the movement of the shoulders. This represents the penguin’s webbed feet walk. The body often sways even more to reflect the penguin’s movements.
The second sign is also made with both hands in the shape of flat 5. The hands are placed in front and move up and down whilst the shoulders also move a little.
The sign for a small or large penguin is the sign for PENGUIN followed by the sign for SMALL or for BIG. The signs for SMALL and for BIG are made with the hands in the shape of 5 and palms facing in a vertical direction. The distance between the hands indicates the size of the penguin.
The sign for MANY is used after the sign for PENGUIN to signal plurality. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands in the shape of curved V is placed at various points in the signing space as though several penguins were actually being put into that space.
When the noun PENGUIN is the subject of a verb of movement, one hand in the shape of 5 or curved V is used as the classifier, moving according to the action indicated by the verb.
