Hemm żewġ sinjali għal QANFUD. L-ewwel sinjal isir biż-żewġ idejn. Id waħda tieħu l-forma ta’ 5 magħluqa bis-swaba’ jħarsu lejn il-ġenb u bil-pala tħares ’l isfel. L-id l-oħra tieħu l-forma ta’ B bis-swaba’ mifrudin u bil-pala tħares ’l barra. L-id titqiegħed wara l-ewwel id bis-swaba’ u l-għekiesi jidhru minn warajha.

It-tieni sinjal għandu żewġ partijiet: (jew i) L-idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ 5 kemm kemm ikkurvati, iħarsu lejn xulxin fl-għoli ta’ l-ispallel u joqogħdu ftit imbiegħda minn xulxin. (jew ii) Imbagħad l-idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ 1 bil-werrej ta’ kull id iħares dritt ’il fuq u bl-idejn mal-għoli tal-wiċċ. L-idejn jagħtu skoss lura mill-ġenb tal-wiċċ xi tlett darbiet waqt li jżommu l-istess forma u orjentazzjoni qisu qed jindikaw ix-xewk ta’ fuq dahar il-qanfud.

Is-sinjali għal ŻGĦIR u għal KBIR isiru miż-żewġ idejn forma ta’ Ċ li jħarsu lejn xulxin f’linja orizzontali. Id-distanza bejn l-idejn tindika d-daqs tal-qanfud. Is-sinjal għal QANFUD jiġi qabel is-sinjal għal ŻGĦIR jew KBIR.

Għall-plural is-sinjal għal ĦAFNA jiġi wara s-sinjal għal QANFUD. Ġieli ukoll tintuża classifier. F’dan il-każ tintuża l-id fil-forma ta’ V mgħawġa, u titqiegħed f’ħafna punti fiż-żona tas-sinjali qisu hemmhekk qed jiġu mqiegħdin ħafna qniefed.

Meta n-nom QANFUD ikun is-suġġett ta’ verb ta’ moviment l-id bil-forma ta’ V mgħawġa tintuża bħala classifier. L-id timxi skond l-azzjoni.

There are two signs for HEDGEHOG. The first sign is made with both hands. One hand takes the shape of closed 5 with palm facing downwards and fingers pointing towards the side. The other hand takes the shape of B, with fingers stretched apart and with the palm facing outwards. The hand is placed behind the first hand with the fingers and knuckles visible from behind the hand.

The second sign is made up of two parts: (jew i) The hands take the shape of a very slightly curved 5 with the palm of the hands facing each other at shoulder height and a little apart. (jew ii) The hands take on the shape of 1 with the index finger of each hand extended straight upwards and with the hand at face level. The hands move jerkily back around three times keeping the same shape and orientation as though indicating the spines on the hedgehog’s back.

The signs for SMALL and BIG are made with both hands in the shape of C facing each other horizontally. The distance between the two hands indicates the relative size of the hedgehog. The sign for HEDGEHOG is used before the sign for SMALL or BIG.

The sign for MANY is used after the sign for HEDGEHOG to express the plural. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands in the shape of curved V are placed at various points in the signing space as though several hedgehogs were actually being put into that space.

When the noun HEDGEHOG is the subject of a verb of movement, the hand in the shape of curved V is used as a classifier. The hand moves according to the action.
