The sign for RHINOCEROS is made with one hand in the shape of Y placed on the nose between the eyes with the palm facing sideways. At the start of the sign, the head is bowed down. It goes back up slowly with the hand in the same place. This is like the rhinoceros about to attack using its horn.

To refer to a small or large rhinoceros, the sign for SMALL or the sign for BIG is made with one hand in the shape of 5, palm down, after the sign for RHINOCEROS. The distance between the ground and the hand indicates the relative size of the rhinoceros.

The sign for MANY is used after the sign for RHINOCEROS to express the plural. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands take the shape of curved V. They are placed at various points in the signing space as though several rhinoceroses were actually being put into that space.

When the noun RHINOCEROS is the subject of a verb of movement, the hand in the shape of curved 5 is used as the classifier, moving according to the action indicated by the verb.
