Hemm żewġ sinjali differenti għal SKWIRIL. L-ewwel sinjal għandu żewġ partijiet: (jew i) L-ewwel, l-idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ Q magħluqa, bil-werrej imiss is-saba’ l-kbir. Jitqiegħdu mal-ħalq qisu l-iskwiril qed igiddem xi karotta. (jew ii) Imbagħad, driegħ wieħed jitwaqqaf dritt mill-minkeb jirrapreżenta siġra waqt li l-id l-oħra, forma ta’ 5 ikkurvata tiżżerżaq ’l fuq it-tul tal-ewwel driegħ.
It-tieni sinjal ukoll għandu żewġ partijiet: (jew i) Id waħda tieħu l-forma ta’ 5 milwi u titla’ mill-iktar punt ’l isfel fiż-żona tas-sinjali, fuq in-naħa ta’ wara li tfakkar f’denb l-iskwiril. (jew ii) It-tieni parti l-istess bħall-ewwel parti tal-ewwel sinjal.
Is-sinjal għal TARBIJA kultant jintuża wara s-sinjal għal SKWIRIL biex jirreferi għall-ferħ ta’ l- iskwiril. Is-sinjal għal ŻGĦIR jew għal KBIR isir bl-idejn li jieħdu l-forma ta’ 5 u iħarsu lejn xulxin f’linja orizzontali jew vertikali. Id-distanza bejn l-idejn tindika d-daqs ta’ l-iskwiril. Is-sinjal għal SKWIRIL jiġi qabel is-sinjal għal ŻGĦIR jew KBIR.
Fil-plural, is-sinjal għal ĦAFNA jiġi wara s-sinjal għal SKWIRIL. Ġieli ukoll tintuża classifier. F’dan il-każ, id waħda jew iż-żewġ idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ U mgħawġa jew ta’ V imgħawġa u jitpoġġew f’ħafna punti fiż-żona tas-sinjali qisu hemmhekk qed jitqiegħdu ħafna skwirils.
Meta n-nom SKWIRIL ikun is-suġġett ta’ verb ta’ moviment, id waħda jew iż-żewġ idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ U mgħawġa jew ta’ V mgħawġa. Dawn jintużaw bħala classifier u l-idejn jimxu skond l-azzjoni.
There are two different signs for SQUIRREL. The first sign is made up of two parts: (jew i) First, the hands form a closed Q shape with the index finger touching the thumb. The hands are placed at the mouth as though the squirrel is eating a carrot. (jew ii) Then one arm is placed upright to represent a tree and the other hand in the shape of curved 5 moves up the first arm.
The second sign also has two parts: (jew i) In the first part, the hand in the shape of bent 5 moves up from the lowest point in the signing zone behind the body. (jew ii) The second part of the sign is the same as the first part of the first sign.
The sign for SQUIRREL followed by the sign for BABY is sometimes used to refer to the young. The signs for SMALL and for BIG are made with two hands in the shape of 5 with palms facing each other in a horizontal or vertical direction. The distance between the hands indicates the relative size of the squirrel. The sign for SQUIRREL is used before the sign for SMALL or BIG.
The sign for MANY follows the sign for SQUIRREL to indicate plurality. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands take the shape of curved U or curved V. They are placed at various points in the signing space as though several squirrels were actually being put into that space.
When the noun SQUIRREL is used with a verb of movement, one hand in the shape of curved U or curved V is used as a classifier and moves accordingly.
