Hemm żewġ sinjali ftit differenti għal TIĠIEĠA. L-ewwel sinjal jista’ jsir b’id waħda jew bi tnejn. L-id tieħu l-forma ta’ ponn u d-driegħ jimtedd mill-minkeb. Il-minkeb joħroġ u jidħol ftit biex jolqot il-ġenb bi skoss u jerġa’ joħroġ ’il barra darbtejn jew iktar. Għalhekk il-moviment isir fil-ġenb.
It-tieni sinjal jixbaħ lill-ewwel wieħed imma l-imniekeb joħorġu ’l barra u l-moviment isir billi l-imniekeb jitilgħu u jinżlu bid-dirgħajn qrib xulxin quddiem.
Hemm varjant qadim li għandu parti oħra tas-sinjal li ssir l-ewwel. Din il-parti hija s-sinjal għal GĦASFUR, jiġifieri, l-id tieħu l-forma ta’ L bil-pala ta’ l-id tħares ‘il barra waqt li tgħatti l-ħalq. Is-saba’ l-kbir u l-werrej jingħalqu u jinfetħu ħafif ħafif darbtejn jew iktar.
Is-sinjali għal ŻGĦIR u għal KBIR isiru mill-idejn li jieħdu l-forma ta’ 5 u jħarsu lejn xulxin f’linja vertikali. Id-distanza bejn l-idejn tindika d-daqs tat-tiġieġa. Is-sinjal għal TIĠIEĠA jiġi qabel is-sinjal għal ŻGĦIR jew għal KBIR.
Għall-plural is-sinjal għal ĦAFNA jiġi wara s-sinjal għal TIĠIEĠA. Id waħda jew iż-żewġ idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ 8 mgħawweġ jew V mgħawġa, jintużaw bħala classifier u jitpoġġew f’postijiet differenti fiż-żona tas-sinjali bħallikieku hemmhekk qed jitqiegħdu ħafna tiġieġ.
Meta n-nom TIĠIEĠA jkun is-suġġett ta’ verb ta’ moviment, l-id, bil-forma ta’ 8 mgħawweġ jew V mgħawġa, tintuża bħala classifier u timxi skond l-azzjoni.
There are two slightly different signs for HEN. The first sign can be made with one or both hands. The hand takes the shape of a fist and the arm lies down from the elbow. The elbow then moves out a little and then back inwards, hitting the side with a jerk. This is repeated two or more times. The movement takes place at the sides.
The second sign resembles the first but the elbows move out and the movement is made by the elbows moving up and down with the arms held close to each other at the front.
An old variant of this sign is made up of another part which is made first. This is the sign for BIRD, that is, the hand takes the L shape with palm facing out at mouth level. The thumb and the index finger move in a light closing and opening movement twice or more.
The signs for SMALL and BIG are made with two hands in the shape of 5 with palms facing each other in a vertical direction. The distance between the
hands indicates the relative size of the hen. The sign for HEN is used before the sign for SMALL or for BIG.
The sign for MANY follows the sign for HEN to indicate plurality. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands take the shape of curved 8 or curved V. They are placed at various points in the signing space as though several hens were actually being put into that space. Classifiers are used also with verbs of movement and move accordingly.
