Is-sinjal antik isir b’id waħda li tieħu l-forma ta’ 5 miftuħ. L-id togħrok iż-żaqq. Dan ifakkar fis-sinjal għal ĠUĦ influenzat mix-xebħ ta’ l-isem “Hungary” mal-kelma “hunger” bl-Ingliż.
The sign for HUNGARY is made with one hand that takes the shape of X and is placed with the extended finger touching the chin. The hand then moves out and down in a curved line.
The old sign is made with one hand in the shape of open 5. The hand rubs the tummy. This reminds one of the sign for HUNGER influenced by the resemblance of the placename to the English word “hunger”.
