Hemm żewġ sinjali għal ĊIKONJA. L-ewwel wieħed għandu żewġ partijiet. (jew i) L-ewwel isir is-sinjal għal GĦASFUR. Id waħda tieħu l-forma ta’ L bil-pala tal-id tħares ’il barra maġenb il-ħalq jew tgħatti l-ħalq. Is-saba’ l-kbir u l-werrej jingħalqu ħafif ħafif u jinfetħu darbtejn jew iktar. (jew ii) Imbagħad isir is-sinjal għal MUNQAR TWIL magħmul b’id waħda minn quddiem l-imnieħer bl-istess forma tal-id li toħroġ quddiem biex tindika munqar twil.
It-tieni sinjal għandu żewġ partijiet: (jew i) L-ewwel isir is-sinjal għal MUNQAR TWIL. (jew ii) Imbagħad, l-id, milwija mill-polz, tieħu l-forma ta’ 5 ftit ikkurvat quddiem il-qadd u titla’ ’l fuq sa’ quddiem il-wiċċ waqt li s-swaba’ jingħalqu qishom qed jerfgħu xi ħaġa ħafifa bħaċ-ċikonja tal-ħrejjef li terfa’ tarbija minn ħwejjiġha bil-munqar.
Is-sinjal għal ĊIKONJA ŻGĦIRA huwa magħmul mis-sinjal għal ĊIKONJA u s-sinjal għal TARBIJA jew għal ŻGĦIR. Is-sinjali għal ŻGĦIR u għal KBIR huma magħmulin mill-idejn forma ta’ 5 bl-idejn iħarsu lejn xulxin u ’l bogħod skond id-daqs.
Fil-plural, is-sinjal għal ĦAFNA jintuża wara s-sinjal għal ĊIKONJA. Ġieli ukoll tintuża classifier. F’dan il-każ, id waħda jew iż-żewġ idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ V mgħawġa jew 8 mgħawweġ u jitpoġġew f’ħafna punti fiż-żona tas-sinjali qisu hemmhekk qed jitqiegħdu ħafna ċikonji.
Meta n-nom ĊIKONJA jkun is-suġġett ta’ verb ta’ moviment, tintuża id waħda bil-forma ta’ V mgħawġa jew ta’ 8 mgħawweġ bħala classifier u l-id timxu skond l-azzjoni.
There are two signs for SWAN. (jew i) The first part is the sign for BIRD. One hand makes the L shape, palm facing out and near or covering the mouth. The thumb and the index finger move in a light closing and opening movement twice or more. (jew ii) The sign for LONG BEAK is made using the same handshape. The hand moves some distance outwards from in front of the nose to indicate the long beak.
The second sign consists of two parts. (jew i) First, the same sign for LONG BEAK is made. (jew ii) Then the hand takes the slightly curved 5 shape and moves upwards from waist level to face level whilst the fingers close in as though lifting something light. This represents a stork lifting a baby in its beak by its clothes as in the traditional tale.
The sign for a baby stork is the sign for STORK followed by the sign for BABY or for SMALL. The signs for SMALL and BIG are made with two hands in the shape of 5 with palms facing each other with distance corresponding to size.
The sign for MANY is used after the sign for STORK to signal plurality. A classifier is often used. One or both hands take the shape of curved V or curved 8 and are placed at various points in the signing space as though several storks were actually being put into that space.
When the noun STORK is used as the subject of a verb of movement, one hand in the shape of curved V or curved 8 is used as a classifier and moves accordingly.
