Is-sinjal għal IL-ĠAPPUN isir biż-żewġ idejn. L-idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ L bil-pala tħares laġenba. Is-swaba’ imissu, werrej ma’ werrej u saba’ kbir ma’ saba’ kbir. Imbagħad l-idejn jitbiegħdu lejn il-ġenb u l-werrej u s-saba’ ta’ kull id jispiċċaw imissu ma’ xulxin. Ġieli dan il-moviment isir djagonalment, jiġifieri flok min-nofs lejn il-ġnub jibda ftit lejn ġenb wieħed u id waħda togħla u l-id l-oħra tinżel f’linja djagonali.

Varjazzjoni ta’ dan is-sinjal isir b’id waħda li tieħu l-forma ta’ 1. Il-werrej jitqiegħed fuq il-ġenb ta’ l-għajn u jiġbed l-għajn laġenba. Dan is-sinjal ġeneralment ma jintużax miż-żgħażagħ.

The sign for JAPAN is made with both hands. The hands are in the shape of L with palms facing sideways. The fingers touch, index finger with index finger and thumb with thumb. The hands then move away from each other and the index finger and thumb of each hand end up touching. Sometimes the movement is made diagonally, that is, instead of from the middle to the sides, it starts at one side and then one hand is raised and the other is lowered diagonally.

A variation of this sign is made with one hand in the shape of 1. The index finger is placed at the side of the eye and pulls it sideways. This sign is not usually used by the younger generation.
