Is-sinjal għal ĠIRAFFA isir b’id waħda li tieħu l-forma ta’ L jew ta’ Ċ u titqiegħed quddiem l-għonq bil-pala tħares ’il ġewwa. Imbagħad l-id togħla ’l fuq waqt li r-ras tintefa’ ftit lura biex l-għonq ikun jidher.
Għal ġiraffa żgħira jew kbira, is-sinjali għal ŻGĦIR jew is-sinjal għal KBIR, isir b’id waħda li tieħu l-forma ta’ 5 bil-pala ’l isfel. Id-distanza bejn l-art u l-id tindika d-daqs tal-ġiraffa. Dan is-sinjal jiġi wara s-sinjal għal ĠIRAFFA.
GħaIl-plural is-sinjal għal ĦAFNA jiġi wara s-sinjal għal ĠIRAFFA. Ġieli ukoll tintuża classifier. F’dan il-każ tintuża l-id li tieħu l-forma ta’ V mgħawġa u titpoġġa f’ħafna punti fiż-żona tas-sinjali qisu hemmhekk qed jitqiegħdu ħafna ġiraffi.
Meta n-nom ĠIRAFFA jkun is-suġġett ta’ verb ta’ moviment, l-id fil-forma ta’ V mgħawġa tintuża bħala classifier. Imbagħad timxi skond l-azzjoni.
The sign for GIRAFFE is made with one hand in the shape of L or of C placed in front of the neck, palm facing outwards. The hand moves up whilst the head is thrown slightly back so that the neck can be seen.
The signs for SMALL and BIG are made with one hand in the shape of 5 with palm facing the ground. The distance between the hand and the ground indicates the relative size of the giraffe. The sign for GIRAFFE is used before the sign for SMALL or BIG.
The sign for MANY is used after the sign for GIRAFFE to express the plural. A classifier is often used. In this case one or both hands in the shape of curved V are placed at various points in the signing space as though several giraffes were actually being put into that space.
When the noun GIRAFFE is the subject of a verb of movement, the hand in a curved V shape is used as the classifier, moving according to the action.
